Reversing camera installation

Improve safety and efficiency on the road with a rearview camera

As the owner or manager of a business with commercial vehicles, you understand the importance of safety and efficiency on the road.
By installing a rearview camera, you can help your drivers maneuver more safely, avoid accidents and increase productivity.

Improve the safety of your drivers and other road users

Driving large vehicles can be tricky, especially when it comes to reversing.
This can lead to dangerous situations for both your drivers and other road users, especially if there are blind spots that are not visible through the rearview mirrors.
A rearview camera can help your drivers reduce these blind spots, preventing accidents and reducing property damage or injuries to people.

Reduce costs and increase productivity

Installing a rearview camera offers several benefits for your business vehicles and your company as a whole.
It reduces the risk of accidents and damage, leading to lower costs for repairs, insurance and liability.
It increases the efficiency and productivity of your drivers as they can maneuver faster and more accurately, especially in congested areas.
It also improves your reputation as a responsible and safe company, which can help increase your customer base.

What will the rearview camera be installed on?

The type of vehicle to which the camera will be mounted has the greatest influence on the choice of the final rearview camera.
Next, the location where the camera is placed is important.
Ideally, the camera should sit as high as possible on the vehicle so that as large an area as possible can be seen.
Generally, the blind spots on a vehicle are at the rear, right side and front.
Therefore, these are the places where cameras are most often mounted.
Most types of rearview cameras can still be adjusted after they are mounted.
This gives the driver the optimal view of the blind spot, or any other area around the vehicle that he/she wants to overlook.
For standard rigid trucks or tractor-trailer combinations, it is usually not a problem to position a camera as high as possible.
But, of course, there are many vehicles where this is a lot more difficult.
Consider, for example, a dump truck, a tree transport truck, or another type of vehicle, such as a forklift or excavator.
For these vehicles, positioning the rearview camera is largely determined by the available space and shape.

Pay attention to this when installing a rearview camera.

A reversing camera must not only be suitable for the vehicle, it must also fit within the environment in which that vehicle is usually driven.
For construction vehicles, for example, which drive through dust, mud and over unpaved terrain, it is important that the reversing camera can withstand rough handling and is easy to clean.
In such conditions, a camera with an IP69K protection rating is a godsend.
This is because this reversing camera is not only completely waterproof and dustproof, but also has an additional protective glass that prevents the lens from being damaged and can be easily replaced.

A camera with dynamic range

Although the vast majority of vehicles always drive outside, there are exceptions.
For example, forklifts often drive from inside to outside and back again, and trucks also drive (partially) inside, for example at a distribution center.
For these maneuvers, a reversing camera is therefore an ideal tool, especially if it is a camera with dynamic range.
This type of reversing camera displays both light and dark areas well in one image.
With other cameras, when a vehicle drives inward, the camera may be focused on the light from outside, causing the inside of a loading dock to appear as a dark spot on the monitor.
As a result, despite the presence of a reversing camera, the driver still has inadequate visibility.
The same is true for driving outside, only then outside is displayed as a light spot.
So with a dynamic camera, there are no problems with displaying light and dark spots in one image.

Crisp image in the dark?

Then know that good infrared cameras exist.
With these you will always have visibility, even if you can’t see your hand in front of your face.
This could be because you are working at night, but also because of a dusty environment.
This is where the previously discussed IP69K certification is important.
Looking for a rugged rearview camera with infrared technology?
Then the Satir NV628 might be for you.

Before you start installing this rearview camera, know the functions of the Satir NV628.
This is because it is able to mark objects with the automatic detection function.

Find the suitable monitor

This may seem simpler than it is.
There are many different monitors.
Let’s start me the main choices.
Once you figure that out, it’s a lot simpler.
Starting with the number of cameras.
Are you only working with one rearview camera?
Then a monitor with a single camera input will suffice.
We recommend a monitor with multiple inputs in many cases.
Here’s the thing.
While one camera is sufficient for now, it doesn’t have to be so in the future.
More and more security upgrades with cameras are becoming mandatory.
Chances are that more cameras will be connected to your vehicle in the future.
If so, it’s easy if that can be done on your current monitor.
Further, look at the dimensions and if there are any specific issues.
For example, a sun visor may not be an unnecessary luxury in some cases.

Rearview camera installation: don’t forget this

Avoid installing the rearview camera and then coming to this conclusion.
It doesn’t work.
Did you forget something somewhere?
Is the camera not working?
Is the monitor not connected correctly or defective?
Now it may take you a while to find the cause.
Before you start installing the rearview camera; check.
Connect the camera system separately.
Does the system work?
Then at least it has been tested before you start the installation.
This immediately helps you to understand the connection procedure well and clearly.

Mounting the rearview camera

Mounting the camera in the right position and correctly.
Easier for some than others.
Working with waterproof sealant and drilling in the exact right spot.
It’s just not for everyone.
For this reason, there are several options.
Not only do we have a professional assembly team that can take care of the assembly.
There is an even simpler option.
A reversing camera incorporated into the license plate holder.
It’s a lot easier to replace a license plate holder compared to installing a camera system.

Why install a camera system on your vehicle?

As stated in the introduction.
Cameras are everywhere.
What are reasons to purchase a camera system for a vehicle?
Obviously, the main reason is safety.
But did you know that a camera system can also significantly reduce your costs.
By preventing damages, but also to prevent claims, for example.
It also speeds up the process considerably should there be a claim.
Suppose a claim is made that your vehicle was involved in an accident.
Then a lengthy legal process can begin.
The result?
A lot of costs in both money and time and energy.
Bummer.
A camera system would have made it immediately clear what did or did not occur.
