What is good visibility?

Productivity increases significantly as a result of good visibility and pleasant working light.
Are you working at a relatively high speed, for example? Then a spotlight helps keep working speed high. Or a WideFlood light pattern for vehicles at lower speeds. For example, for a crane or excavator.

Thanks to the comfortable color temperature offered by our lighting, you have good working light that is pleasant for the eyes and reduces fatigue when working in the dark. It reduces the risk of mistakes and accidents and enables operators to work professionally.

There are a lot of options when it comes to lighting. We will be happy to advise you on the right lighting simulation.

Energy-efficient work light | long life | bright white light

The three major advantages of LED lights on work lights are energy savings, long life and bright white light.
Nevertheless, these work lights are not fitted as standard on vehicles.
This is because the purchase price is higher than that of a Halogen variant, for example.
This is why manufacturers often choose halogen bulbs.
But a halogen bulb is ultimately more expensive.
Let me explain that.
First of all, a halogen bulb has to be replaced many times more often.
From 10 to 35 times as often.
An LED version only needs to be fixed once.
In addition, you can work more productively.
Our work lights have a color temperature of about 5500 Kelvin.
Bright and white.
And that keeps you focused unlike Halogen variants.
With a temperature of about 2500 Kelvin, these lights have a yellow appearance and that is not pleasant.
So you see everything less clearly and on top of that, your brain associates yellow light with dim sunlight.
Substances are produced in your brain that indicate that the sun is about to set: time to sleep.

HID work lights

Our work lighting pays for itself and it keeps you sharp (instead of sleepy).
That’s why we recommend that compared to Halogen, the choice is quickly made.
But there is another option: HID.
Better known as Xenon.
Lighting resulting from a chemical reaction.
HID is a great alternative thanks to lower energy consumption and relatively high light output.
Know that HID lighting has a significantly higher purchase price compared to LED.
In addition, it is less powerful.
A work light often ends up on vehicles, in which case that ruggedness is very important.
Good lighting can withstand a bump, can withstand high temperatures and on top of that can withstand shocks.

Mounting a work light on a vehicle.

A quality work lamp can take a beating.
Pleasant.
Especially if you mount the lamp on a vehicle that operates in rough conditions.
Good lighting is important in many industries, and things can get rough in those industries.
Take agriculture, for example.
Working long nights to bring in the harvest.
It’s nice to have good lighting but also that the work lamp does not break down in the middle of the meadow.
At Nordic Lights all work lamps are extensively tested and a long life is therefore guaranteed.
Even if you work in a rough environment, with high temperatures or with a lot of moisture.
All work lamps are equipped with a Deutsch Connector that prevents sand and moisture from entering the lamp.
And with an aluminum housing that makes the lamp robust and cool.
Thanks to this cooling, the service life is significantly improved.

Good work lights = less cost.

Save with quality lighting.
You can.
We’ll calculate it for you.
Suppose you have a vehicle, for example a tractor.
You use it 250 days a year and the vehicle is used for an average of 2 hours a day.
Standard you have halogen lamps and they do not last the lifetime of the example.
In fact, in the example, you work with the tractor for eight years before it depreciates.
And if you don’t have standard but premium lights?
Then you quickly save €500.
The €335 work light (LED) is fitted once and after that you have no more costs.
The Halogen bulb costs €142 and the bulbs are replaced eight times for €15 per bulb.
Replacing takes time and time is money.
We charge eight hours for eight replacements and €75 per hour.
That already puts you at €600!
Total cost for Halogen?
€862 versus €335.
Just with the direct costs you already earn over five hundred euros in eight years.

Meet our supplier.

We are an exclusive dealer of Nordic Lights work lamps. This Finnish manufacturer has a large factory in Jakobstad where all lamps are made.

Quality is key.
All work lights are made of high-quality materials. Nordic Lights work lights, therefore, come with a five-year guarantee on light output. In addition, the lights do not interfere with other electronics such as the radio or walkie-talkie. Thanks to the EMC certification, you can be sure it is not the case with our range.

We are not the only ones who like using Nordic Lights. Komatsu, Caterpillar, Volvo, John Deere, and Liebherr, among others, also chose the Finnish manufacturer but under their brand.

Indirect costs of workplace lighting.

These are many times higher than the direct costs. Do you check whether your lighting is working every time you work during the day? Many people do not. If you have to work in the dark and find out the lighting is not working, you cannot work safely. In some cases, the work has to be postponed.
It is also common for lighting to interfere with other electronics. Annoying when you have to find where the interference is coming from, where you start looking, and how long it will take.
Just a handful of examples.

Meet our supplier.

On top of that, you make more mistakes with poor lighting.
Because of the fatigue caused by yellow light, but also directly because of reduced visibility.
The illustration on the right shows well how much you miss when you do not have premium lighting on your vehicle.
This is partly why many manufacturers still supply Halogen as standard.
Only when you see the difference do you notice what you have missed.
For this reason, we work a lot with demonstrations.
Then we come on location to see the benefits of good work lights.

Picking the right work lamp.

A lamp.
It doesn’t seem that difficult and it isn’t.
But there is more to it than meets the eye.
That is why we list a few things so you know you are buying the right work lamp.
Next to the type of lamp, the light pattern is the most important.
Do you work on an excavator? Then a lamp that shines sixty meters ahead is of little use. You are more likely to want a WideFlood pattern with lots of all-round visibility.
Are you working on a shovel where you have to move a lot at full speed? In that case, good visibility to the front does apply and you look for a HighBeam.

The light color is also important. If you work a lot in snow or light/white surroundings, we have 2700K warm white work lights.
There is also a difference in the type and material of the housing. For example, the Nordic Lights QD has vibration dampers to absorb vibrations from the machine and create a stable light image. If you don’t need that, a glass lens can offer a solution for use in very hot environments such as the steel industry. Below Nordic’s Pro range is the Go range. A nice range of entry-level models with bonded lenses and compact construction.

The technical aspects of work lighting.

Briefly, these are the following technical aspects to look at:
– Which construction shape fits the machine? Is it a square work light ‘Scorpius series’, it round work light ‘Canis series’, or it oval work light ‘Sato series’?
– Do I need to be able to distinguish materials, colors, and contrast? Then you need a work lamp with a high color authenticity CRI. All Nordic Light’s lights have a CRI of Ra > 80, which is very good for work lights.
– What kind of EMC certification does the work light have? Nordic Lights are EMC CISPR25 class 5 certified, which is a very high standard. This ensures interference-free lighting.
– What color temperature does the light have? Many brands use 6000K working light which is very white but produces a lot of light, but is not pleasant to work in. Nordic Lights uses a range between 5000K and 5700K which creates a professional working environment.
– Does the worklight have cooling fins? The lifespan of LED lights has to do with proper cooling, the better the LED chips can dissipate heat, the longer the lights will last. The housings of Nordic Lights work lights are fully designed on the type of LED chip so we can guarantee a lifespan of at least 5 years.
– To what extent is the work light waterproof? There are many different IP ratings available in this. For professional outdoor use, you need IP6K9K, which is also Nordic Lights’ standard. These lamps are high-pressure watertight.
– What kind of connection does the lamp have? A work lamp gets hot and cools down again, if this lamp has a cable connection it will suck water in, due to the temperature differences. The Nordic Lights are supplied as standard with an integrated Deutsch connector, making the lamp completely sealed and preventing moisture from getting in.

The importance of vehicle safety.

For over twenty-five years, we have focused on vehicle safety with high-quality lighting plans, work lighting, and other solutions.

Good visibility and being seen.
Lighting allows you to see well.
But do you also want to be seen well?
Then perhaps a strobe light or a flashing light is for you. Or a detection system for the construction site. Using radars
and/or intelligent AI Cameras, we can detect people and objects and alert all involved should a dangerous situation arise. We even have the ability to actively intervene and provide customized safety solutions in every situation.

Work lights and cameras.

A set of work lights ensures that you have good visibility around your vehicle.
However, there is another area that is illuminated but you don’t see.
Your blind spot.

Always and everywhere visibility with cameras
A good camera gives you visibility where you normally see nothing.
And that goes beyond visibility.
There are systems with an active warning, for example.
The SmartVue Doblicam that meets DVS London requirements, for example.
A system which gives an active warning (audio & visual) if there is a dangerous situation.
For example, if your blinker is on to the right and there is a cyclist cycling in your blind spot.
Around view, around your forklift or truck, is also among the options.
Meet the OmniVue 360 where eight cameras give you visibility everywhere.

A safety solution for every situation.

Meet the requirements of ECE R65 and be highly visible with flashing lights.
Or make sure you’re audible with a reversing alarm.
Did you know that a reversing alarm doesn’t always have to be annoying?
That annoying beep can cause a nuisance.
Especially if, for example, you work in road construction and are therefore always on the road at night.
With a SMART reversing alarm you are always audible but you do not cause any nuisance.
This is because this system adapts to the environment.
It measures the number of decibels around the vehicle and the reverse signal is automatically five decibels higher.
So you are clearly audible but nobody bothers you.
How pleasant.

Work safely with vehicle signalling.

This can be done with a blue spot, for example.
It shines in front of the vehicle, for example, a forklift truck, and ensures that people know you are coming.
Let’s say you work in a warehouse with full racks and can’t see if a pedestrian is coming around the corner. With a blue spotlight, the pedestrian will see you. We also have red lines or red arcs available, which are lights that project a red line (Red Line) or red arc (Red Arc) along the vehicle onto the ground.

Work lights on your vehicle?

Some work lights are better suited to a vehicle than others.
Thus, for many vehicles, we have a lighting kit specifically for that type of vehicle such as rubbish trucks, excavators, agricultural machinery, tractors, and wheel loaders. This set includes lamps that you can replace and expand one-to-one with your current Halogen lamps. In addition to the set of lamps, we also supply instructions on how and in what position to best mount the lamps.

What makes a lamp fit one vehicle better than another?
As we mentioned earlier, the light pattern is important. Shock resistance or size also makes one lamp more suitable than another. A vehicle that almost always operates in the dark needs a higher number of lumens than a vehicle that occasionally drives in the dark.

What are lumens?

Need a lot of light?
Then you want a lot of lumens.
That is the unit in which luminous intensity is measured and there is an important distinction to be made here. With halogen, a distinction is often made between wattage and lumen with LED.

Operational and theoretical light output
There is a difference between theoretical and operational light output. Many suppliers only communicate the theoretical light output. This is a calculation of all individual LED chips together times the number of lumens per LED chip. However, LED chips do not reinforce each other 100% when multiple LED chips are used in one lamp. The actual measured total light output of a lamp is called the operational light output, which is the amount of light you experience in use.
For example: Four LED chips each have a strength of 90 lumens. The theoretical light output is then 4 times 90 lumens is 360 lumens. The operational light output may be lower than the 360 lumens from the example. Besides mutual gain, factors such as temperature or lens are not taken into account. Note that we are talking about temperature in degrees Celsius, not Kelvin. It could just be that the operational lumen is only 280 lumens.

Light output of work lights in practice.

The light output is then not 6000 lumens but 4600.
And measuring this must be done accurately.
This is because immediately after the lamp is turned on, the number of lumens is higher than after some time.
We measure the operational yield two hours after the lamp is turned on.
Our lamps have a yield that is on average 35 percent lower than the theoretical yield.
That may seem like a lot but it is good to know that the loss is generally as much as 50 percent.
