We spoke with André Abbo, director of LEMM International Transport about the importance of accurate trip recording, automated payroll and fuel savings.

No regular Track and Trace

A few years ago we started with simple Track and Trace, but the provider we first used didn’t live up to our expectations, so we looked further into what was available in the market and ended up with Rietveld.
From the first contact with Sander we had a good feeling about it and the system works perfectly.
Every two minutes you know the exact position of all the vehicles, which makes planning much more effective.

Simply because we already had insight into the locations of all vehicles, we were able to save on phone traffic, plan better and thus significantly reduce many unnecessary costs and labor-intensive activities.

Efficio SmartApp and compensation with EasyHours

A few years after we had insight into our drivers’ positions thanks to EasyTrack, I started looking further into other possibilities that would allow us to minimize our costs even further.
At that time, I was actually still doing my payroll completely manually in Excel.
And it was really just becoming too much work, one day a week I was fully occupied with payroll.
Then we started looking at the possibility of automating that.
The most important thing about that, of course, is that the registration of the hours worked is correct, so that our drivers get paid exactly for the hours they worked.
Then we sat down with Rietveld and discussed our requirements, after which we opted for a flexible solution in the form of the Efficio SmartApp.
For that, we installed 35 smartphones and explained to our drivers that they had to work with it.
We introduced it step by step, starting with setting statuses and messaging, and so we expanded the use a little bit each time.
After three months everyone was used to it!
After that it was just a matter of making the right settings in EasyWatch and nowadays I complete the entire payroll within two hours.

Driving style improvement thanks to EasyDrive

After we realized the earlier savings, I went on to look at what else we could save.
And it turned out that savings could also be made in my drivers’ driving habits.
With EasyDrive we first did a baseline measurement of how things stood and then we started looking together with drivers at their personal score and the overall average score.
Within 5 months we saw results.
Consumption had already been reduced from 1 to 3 to 1 to 3.5. Add that up over a whole year, and it’s quite an amount.
So it does save fuel and of course preventively it also saves wear and tear on brake pads, tires that last longer and other things.
Of course, I do continue to encourage my drivers to stay alert to this.
I do that by sending them an e-mail every Monday morning saying: ‘The driving performance was top notch again and your collective average grade is an 8.2!’
Furthermore, all drivers obviously receive the correct reward that goes with correct defensive driving behavior, we continue to do that, make sure we all get it right, then we all gain!
