Developed with Selman: pay via tachograph

Rietveld and Selman Transport jointly developed automatic payroll based on tachograph data, without on-board computer

Transport company Selman Transport from Bemmel, together with Rietveld, has developed an innovative solution that allows transport entrepreneurs to pay drivers without an on-board computer.

Through a smart link between the new digital tachograph 2.2, Rietveld’s device Qan-All and the applications EasyTacho and EasyHours, a complete and reliable system is created for the automated hours and expenses account in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for the Transport of Goods.
The solution has now been successfully tested and is operational at Selman Transport.

New standard: pay based on digital smarttacho 2

The core of the solution is that the smarttachograph records the driver’s working and driving data according to legislation (driving, working, resting, available). This data is collected through the Qan-All unit and sent to the application EasyTacho sent. The data is synchronized with EasyHours, which allows automatic calculation of hours, allowances and expenses. At the same time, Rietveld’s EasyTrack provides the location and trip data for track & trace and trip recording.

With this solution, automated hour and expense calculations no longer require a traditional on-board computer.

No more need for GPS and an elaborate on-board computer with the Qan-All

Whereas many solutions in the market rely on on-board computers, this solution uses Qan-All, smart device combined with:

  • Smart Tachograaf 2 en EasyTacho voor rij- en werkdata

  • EasyHours for salary advance calculation and payroll output

  • EasyTrack for location and trip recording.

Selman Transport as ‘friendly user’ in development

Selman Transport has been working with on-board computers for decades for trip registration and track & trace and also has its own developed app for order processing, digital bills of lading and communication with drivers.

When Selman Transport expressed the ambition to automate the salary advance calculation and to say goodbye to on-board computers, the idea arose together with Rietveld to use the tachograph as a basis for time registration. The tachograph is a legal instrument that must be used correctly. By linking payroll directly to this data, drivers are encouraged to record their activities in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations, resulting in reliable and compliant timekeeping.

The process, from concept to working link, took about a year. During this period, Rietveld and Selman worked together intensively and the solution was extensively tested in daily practice to arrive at a highly reliable system.

Arno Driesen, director of Selman Transports:

“The choice for Rietveld was because they are not only knowledgeable, but also empathetic and helpful. They understand the market as well as your organization. As a result, together you build a solution that fits exactly what your needs are.”

Practical advantage: fewer systems, less manual work, more reliability

For transportation companies, this solution mainly means:

  • less hardware in the truck

  • less administrative manual labor

  • 100% more reliable timekeeping

  • Automated remuneration in accordance with the Professional Goods Transport collective agreement

In addition, the solution fits well with the reality of transportation companies, where drivers are increasingly working with apps and digital workflows instead of traditional on-board computers.

This is where the market is moving

The idea for the project arose from the market need to make better use of tachograph data. Within Rietveld, it had long been expressed that remuneration based on the digital smarttacho 2 should be technically possible, especially now that the latest tachographs contain additional functionalities.
Rietveld and Selman Transport investigated this possibility in practice and developed it into a concrete solution.

Jos Tas, sales manager transportation Rietveld:

“The market is changing rapidly. With the advent of the tachograph obligation for vans from 2,600 kg, a new target group is emerging that does not need comprehensive on-board computers, but does need 100% reliable remuneration. If the necessary data is already in the tachograph, you have to use it intelligently. With this solution we make that possible: maximum simplicity, full grip on hours and payroll, complemented by track & trace and automated tachograph management.”

Available for transport companies that want to get rid of on-board computers
After successful implementation at Selman Transport, the solution is now available for transport companies that:

  • want to automate compensation without purchasing on-board computers

  • Use (or want to use) trip registration and track & trace via Qan-All

  • Want to be less dependent on additional hardware in the cabin and GPS
